O'Connor acquitted 1798-05-22

Arthur O’Connor (1763-1852) was tried for Treason in Margate in May 1798 following information that he was travelling to France to negotiate to secure French support for an Irish Revolution. Following extensive testimonials from leading Whigs, O’Connor was acquitted, but was held in custody until 1802, under the suspension of habeas corpus.
